Abstract

Cilicia Tracheia, is a mountainous area as it is understood from its name. Yet, it also has a fragmented structure because of the small valleys created by streams running between the mountains. This geographical structure allowed different ethnical groups and sub-regions to be created in the region in the archaic age. This variety in the geographical and ethnical structure caused a politically fragile structure to emerge in the region and therefore, Cilicia Tracheia was always a region hard to control and manage. Depending on the political developments in Anatolia, Roma required to frequently observe its policies regarding the management of the region.
