Abstract

Makale, Mersin'in Mezitli ilçesinde 407 ada 1 parselde bulunan kaya mezarlarının rölöve ve konservasyonuna odaklanmaktadır.

Abstract

The historical background and cultural heritage of Anatolia should be considered as an input that directs or should direct the development activities in the newly developing regions of cities. The historical and cultural heritage of the city is determined not only by what is seen above ground but also by considering the archaeological heritage underground. This situation should envisage planning by taking into consideration the underground archaeological heritage in the development activities. However, this archaeological heritage, which should be conserved, should not be damaged or destroyed during the development activities. Although Mersin is not a city with a long history, it actually has the Soli-Pompeiopolis antique city, an important port city in ancient times, in the southwest of the present city center. Today, the above-ground ruins that have survived from the city of Soli-Pompeiopolis are under protection as an archaeological site. However, the necropolis area of the city is outside of this area and is expanding with the new archaeological findings. This study describes the method of the projects for the documentation and conservation of rock tombs found during foundation and infrastructure works in the Mezitli District of Mersin Province. These rock tombs, which are archaeological heritage, are located in the necropolis area of the ancient city of Soli -Pompeipolis. In this area, which is entirely open for construction today, the coexistence of these rock tombs with the new construction in the context of their conservation and presentation will be emphasized generally. The paper focuses on the documentation and the conservation project of the rock tombs in Mersin-Mezitli construction lot 407, 1 parcel.
