Abstract

Abstract

The energy emitted from the sun at different wavelengths is reflected and retained at different rates according to the surface feature. According to the land cover/land use situation, the energy reflected from the ground differs. With the industrial revolution, human intervention in nature covers increasingly wider areas. The settlement adventure of mankind, which started from the Neolithic, has reached the size of megacities today. Cities that have an artificial appearance by being largely free of surface cover have different reflection and absorption values according to their surroundings. This situation, which is called the urban heat island in the literature, is examined both by terrestrial meteorology stations data and satellite images. The commonly used method in studies on satellite images is the calculation of the Land surface temperature (LST). The aim of this study is the examination of the temperature situation according to the surroundings of Silifke and Erdemli district centers using LST calculation. In addition to Landsat 8 satellite images taken on 17.06.2019 and 06.06.2021, hourly weather and soil temperature data from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) were used. As a result, it has been determined that 2021 has more LST values than 2019. While LYS and air temperature were higher in Silifke, it was determined that the soil temperature was higher in Erdemli. Both district centers generally have a higher YYS value than their surroundings. Land cover and use, building material, compactness, aspect, elevation, width of city area etc. in the formation of surface temperature difference are influencing factors. In addition, it was determined that the YYS range value of Silifke, through which the Göksu River with high flow passes, is higher than Erdemli.
