THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ANXIETY OF LISTENING AND THEİR LEARNING STYLE

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between the levels of listening anxiety and various variables and learning styles of secondary school students.. In the research, one of the quantitative research methods, mutual alteration between two or more variables and the relational scanning model,which is used for defining the relation and connections between them, is used. Research was conducted on 7 secondary schools (Secondary Schools of Gazi, Cumhuriyet, 18 Mart, Cevatpaşa, Şinasi and Figen Bayraktar Turgut Reis, Kepez Mehmet Akif Ersoy.) which are selected randomly among the secondary schools in Çanakkale. At the sample of research, 762 secondary school students (415 female and 347 male) who are selected by the random sampling method among the 6th 7th and 8th grades of these schools takes part. At research’s phase of data collection, to being able to reach secondary school student’s personal information, “Personal Information Form” , to being able to determine their level of anxiety of listening, “Scale of Anxiety of Listening for Secondary School Students”, and to being able to determine the student’s learning styles, “Kolb’s Inventory of Learning Styles Based on Experiential Learning Theory- III” is used. The datas obtained from scales are analyzed by using the SPSS package programme, which is used at the analysis of quantitative datas. Among the seven dimensions of the listening anxiety scale, the highest level of anxiety was observed to be in the vocabulary factor. It was found out that the most commonly used learning style was changing learning style and there was no statistically significant relationship between listening anxiety and learning styles.
